Rebuilding Together NYC (RTNYC) is a nonprofit organization that transforms the lives of New Yorkers by preserving homes in under-resourced NYC communities. Through our critical home repair and accessibility modifications program, we improve the safety, accessibility, and health of homes. Through our workforce development program, we re-skill individuals for union apprenticeships. Overview of Position:

The Construction Project Consultant reports to the Construction Project Manager and supports NYS Targeted Home Improvement Program grant-funded home improvement projects located in the Bronx.

The consultant is responsible for managing project assessment, scoping, contractor selection, walkthroughs, bid selection, and project openings. The role requires independent work but also involves collaboration with staff, contractors, and homeowners. Regular communication through weekly or bi-monthly check-in meetings with the Construction Project Manager is required during project work.

Specific Responsibilities

Expectation of Work Hours – 10 hours per project

Construction/Housing Preservation Project Management (80%)

  • 1 hour - Conduct site visits to assess homes for critical repairs and accessibility modifications.
  • 2 hours - Document repair needs with before/after photos and upload to project folders.
  • 2 hours - Generate detailed scopes of work for contractor bids and enter them into Salesforce and bidding templates.
  • 2 hours - Conduct contractor walkthroughs to obtain bids.
  • 1 hour - Coordinate contractor selection and bid review for projects.

Project Opening & Communications (20%)

  • 1 hour - Oversee project openings to ensure successful transition from project opening to the construction phase
  • 1 hour - Available to occasionally answer questions from the Construction Project Manager regarding project scopes or site-specific issues if they arise during construction. Available to communicate with contractors, homeowners, and project staff if necessary.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Ideally 5 years in the construction trades (or equivalent construction experience) with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Good working knowledge of concrete and masonry, basic plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems. Demonstrated knowledge of residential home construction means and methods as well as common code requirements in NYC.
  • Ability to identify safety and maintenance issues across all construction trades and specify appropriate repairs in accordance with program guidelines and local regulations/building codes.
  • Residential construction scoping, estimating, and bid solicitation/selection.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse groups of individuals including general contractors, trades groups, staff, and program participants.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive service ethic.
  • Travel is required within the five boroughs of New York City using the organization’s vehicles; must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office required and Salesforce or other database a plus.
  • Must be able to represent Rebuilding Together NYC in a professional manner.
