An Annual Tradition Begins Again!
Join us for the 10th Annual She Builds Event at NYCHA Marlboro Houses!
Real estate leaders from across New York City are gathering once again to give back and enact change. This year, the She Builds committee will support Marlboro residents in revitalizing a large, active, NYCHA community garden.
Roll Up Your Sleeves to Serve A Committed NYCHA Community in the Bronx
Last year we created something new, but this year we're helping a community sustain and enhance the products of their own hard work. This large, active community garden goes back to the 1960s and continues to be nurtured by its elderly residents. The garden has grown to double its original size, as residents have used creativity in its expansion, building with recycled materials at their disposal.
Through this project, Rebuilding Together NYC will support NYCHA residents with creating their own access to food security and thriving third spaces. This garden will continue to serve as a vital resource, providing fresh produce and fostering community engagement.
What We'll Do
Possible work scopes include:
- Outdoor trash cleanup
- Replacing improvised garden bed walls with food safe, untreated lumber, replacing an improvised trellis and shade system with safe materials
- Replacing deteriorated planter walls
- Sifting contaminated soil and replacing with new soil and mulch where needed
- Creating a compost area
- Dividing garden beds into manageable sections with safe footpaths
